My system is pre-1995, is that a problem/ does it fail?

No, while an older system isn't built to the same standards as a new system that doesn't mean that it won't be functioning properly.

What could cause my system to fail?

Common points of failure are: Leach field in water table, broken tank or d-box, system backed up, or having to have your tank pumped 5 times in a year.

Does my yard need to be dug up?

We need access to the covers on both the distribution box and septic tank as well as any additional pump chambers or underground structures, so, yes. However, we try our best to locate and uncover inspection points in the least obtrusive manner possible. Having records or knowlede of your system greatlly helps.

How long is an inspection good for?

A Title V inspection is good for 2 years by itself but is extended to 3 years if you have records of pumping your tank every year since the inspection.

Do I have to repair the system immediately?

Title V allows 2 years to complete repair. A permit is required and any component of the system that failed needs to be upgraded to Title V standards. Repairs are inspected by your local board of health.
